Pellets for Parrots

Parrots need to consume a wide variety to meet their nutritional needs. Unfortunately, pet birds also often have complex diet requirements, and consequently, many experience health issues due to nutrient deficiencies.

What are pellets? & Why quality is important?

A formulated pellet is often the recommended base for a pet bird’s diet. That’s because these types of pellets are created to be a balanced, nutritionally complete food. They should have the correct fat content, vitamins, and minerals to keep your bird healthy. However, not all pellets are created equal. Many pellet varieties have artificial colours and other ingredients that don’t add nutritional value. So it’s essential to find a pellet with a quality ingredient list.

One of the great benefits of pellets is that they take away a bird’s ability to selectively eat only its favourite items from the mix. Pellets are created by taking various ingredients and mixing them at specific amounts to form a single, combined, more-balanced food item.

Our Favourite Pellets

My favourite brand for pellets is Harrison's Bird Foods. We started with TOPs (also a good option for cold-pressed pellets) but found that our birds love the Harrison’s Bird Food pellets and actually eat them! Harrison's provides an organic, balanced, yet tasty way of ensuring that your feathered friend is getting the full range of nutrients it needs.

TOPs use the highest quality food available. That’s why we love them too! They use only locally sourced, all-natural, and non-GMO ingredients from carefully chosen suppliers for their organic cold-pressed pellets.

Harrisons are high quality, organic, no pesticides, no chemical preservatives, grown sustainably, no artificial flavours or colours. Harrison’s Bird Foods is a family of certified organic, non-GMO-verified, formulated diets created by avian veterinarians and top avian nutritionists with the health of your bird in mind. Their formulas usually require little or no supplementation.

Choosing healthy food makes healthy birds, and our wish is for our parrot to have a long, happy and fulfilling life!
