Managing Time with Multiple Pets: Tips for Meeting the Needs of Your Dog and Parrot

Managing time between multiple pets can be challenging, but it's important to make sure that each pet gets the attention and care they need.

I was asked a great question on Instagram!
"How to manage spending time with each to meet your bird AND your dog's needs?"
We always do our best to have meaningful interactions with each of our pets, whether it was Lambo and Mango or Lambo and Mia, every day - quality time with positive interactions. We want to ensure that they each feel how LOVED they are! 🤩 While at the same time fulfilling each of their needs with the right foods, exercise, mental stimulation and so on.

Here are some tips on how to manage spending time with each of your pets:

Create a schedule: Set aside specific times of the day to spend with each pet. For example, you could take your dog for a walk in the morning and then spend time playing with your parrot. Or take your dog to play fetch in the afternoon and then, while he/she is resting, do a training session with your bird. Stick to this schedule as much as possible so your pets know what to expect and can get the attention they need with their needs met.

I feel lucky because I WFH and always have the opportunity to include my pets throughout my daily schedule. Sometimes, when I am working, they will both nap - Mia on my shoulder and Lambo in his bed by my desk. If I am preparing a snack like fruit 😍 I bring Mia with me to hang out! So I always look for ways to have them be a part of my daily routine.

Multi-task: There may be some activities that both pets enjoy, such as cuddling on the couch or playing with a toy if you have 2 dogs or more/ 2 birds or more. You can spend time with both pets simultaneously by doing these activities together.

For example, sometimes we all hang out watching Netflix, Lambo cuddles in, and Mia does too, or she hangs out on her bird stand or ropes near us.

Consider their individual needs: Dogs and parrots have different needs and preferences. For example, dogs require exercise and outdoor time, while parrots need mental stimulation and social interaction. Make sure to meet each pet's unique needs by tailoring your activities to their interests.

Use positive reinforcement: When spending time with each pet, use positive reinforcement to reinforce good behaviour. This will help build a strong bond with each pet and make spending time with them more enjoyable for both you and your pets.

Be flexible: Sometimes, unexpected things can come up, and your schedule may need to be adjusted. Be flexible and adapt your schedule as needed to ensure that each pet gets the attention and care they need.

Remember that each pet is unique, and it may take some trial and error to figure out the best way to manage your time with both pets. With patience and effort, you can create a happy and balanced household for all of your furry and feathered friends.
